What is respite?

Respite means providing parents or carers with a break from their usual caring roles and duties, while providing a positive experience for the care recipient.  

It can take many different forms according to the needs of individual families and the services available. Respite can be planned or happen in response to a crisis or an emergency situation.

  • respite can happen at a regular time each week or at regular intervals or can be arranged only as required.

  • respite can last a few hours, overnight or for several days

  • respite can happen in a family home or in a facility in the community

National Carer Counselling Conference 2017

Goulburn Community Transport

Goulburn Community Transport provides transport (in our vehicles) for frail/aged people and people with disabilities. We drive them from their homes to medical, therapy and social support appointments, both locally and between regional centres (including Melbourne)

Carers & Parents Support Group Inc

Carers & Parents Support Group Inc. (CPSG) provides information, advocacy, referral and support to carers, parents & families of adults (18+ years) with an Intellectual Disability and/or Dual Disability living within the Ovens Murray area.

Monthly general carers meetings are held First Monday of Month (10 a.m. - 12 p.m.) at our Office in the Gliding Club of Victoria Building, 37 Samaria Rd, Benalla. Carers are asked to bring a plate to share for lunch. Speakers of interest maybe invited to share information at these meetings.
